Phase one of our home remodelling is done. We did some dry-rot repair, replaced some single pane windows with dual pane windows, remodelled the upstairs bathroom, moved the heating vents from the middle of the walls (don't ask) to the floor where they belong, took out the built in ironing board in the kitchen which we never used, replaced a ceiling light in the entryway with a chandelier, gave the front of the house a major face lift so we now have some curb appeal, added crown molding and baseboard to one upstairs bedroom and converted the other into a library.
C.J. bought me a leather chair for the library. Some pictures:

I bought the toy leapard to keep Dakota from jumping on the chair. It's worked so far. The bookcase in the back is a built in we had done as part of the remodel.
Here's the chair and the bookcase again. You can also see that Dakota does have a comfortable dog bed.
This just shows the other side of the libary. Note the former gun case that has been converted into a book case. Supposedly this gun case was owned by one of the McCoys of Hatfields and McCoys fame. This McCoy lived in San Francisco with her female companion. The "Indian" next to the book case was carved by C.J.'s father many years ago. One day he just decided to take this old telephone pole section they had on their property and carve it into a cigar store Indian. If you look at it closely, you'll see that it's really a white man dressed as an Indian.
Finally, I just wanted to show this side of the library, too. You can see the built in book shelf we added to the wall above the closet door where we can show off some of our older books and the various bookends we've collected over the yearss. The set of drawers you see is an old printer's type case we now use to store various paper things we've collected. The clock on the wall is actually a dark-room timer C.J.'s grandfather used back in the 1930's. If you look very closely, you can see a picture of Dakota on top of the type case.
She's much thinner now.

I'm getting ready to move to a new apartment, but I know that can't compare with the upheaval of remodeling. But the results are lovely - I do envy built-in bookcases! and I love the stories behind the different pieces of furniture.
Niiiiice. Enjoy!
What a fantastic library! But I suspect Dakota is smart enough to eventually figure out that leopard ruse.
Very nice. My library is in the basement where I hope the books won't get wrinkly or moldy!
Wow, what a great room!! I love the 'cases' - the bookcase, the converted gun case, and the printer's type case...looks cozy.
LOVE the library - and comfortable chair.
I find it funny that a stuffed leopard keeps Dakota off the furniture.....it would only serve as a fun chew toy for my canine crew :)
Dakota has grabbed the leopard and presented it to me when I get home from a long day out, but she does not jump on the chair.
She's very cute wagging her tail at the front door with a great big leopard on her mouth.
Very very nice!! That chair looks handsome and comfy! Love the leopard. And wow … that is a lot of home repairs. Doesn't it feel good though to have it all done?
Ooooh, nice - a library! I'm jealous. Looks like a very comfortable reading space.
Looks lovely! I'm giggling at the snow leopard who protects your turf.
That leather chair looks so comfy! I would never have thought to put a toy on a chair to keep a dog off - glad it works for you. Would love to know if mine would react in the same way. I'll give it a try next time I'm at someone else's house :-)
I love the old printer type cabinet.
